Witch Crafting Mojo Bags

Crafting Everyday Magic

Welcome to Homespun Unrefined! Here, I share DIY crafts, stories, and practices from my witchcraft journey. All beginner and crafter friendly and welcoming! In this article, we’ll explore the art of witchcrafting Mojo Bags, choosing the magical trinkets that can fill them, and how they can amplify your manifestations.

It feels so right that my first shared Witch Crafting item in this blog would be Mojo Bags because this is the first craft I made in my very first circle session.

This post may contain special links through which we earn a small commission if you make a purchase (though your price is the same).

What are Mojo Bags?

Mojo Bags are like handmade amulets filled with one or more magical items & trinkets that the witch is attuned to – or have been imbued with the witch’s intentions. Mojo Bags can be used for many intentions like protection, to manifest abundance, or as a daily reminder to stay positive.

My first mojo bag focused on happiness & prosperity. It is worth noting here, when creating this mojo bag prosperity to me meant abundance in happiness, family/friends, and experiences. At the time, I was going through this transition of being very introverted (which is not my natural tendency), feeling very stagnant, and lonely. I have loved ones but I felt lonely in my soul.

As a result, I found my practice, I found a mentor in my mother-in-law, and friends in my sisters-in-laws. This reignited this flame in me of learning, exploring witchcraft for my soul, and ultimately it has brought me to this place in time where I can share these experiences with you all.

Magical Trinkets

Selecting your magical trinkets that will go into your mojo bag will depend on your intentions. Below, I’ve included a few suggestions to help you get started.
The most important thing is imbuing these magical items with your intentions.

When you hold your gemstone, or spell jar, or sigil, ground yourself to the earth and imagine the energy flowing from the earth through you and into this magical item. Picture yourself basking in the fruits of your manifestations and accept that this is who you are and this is what has already come to you.

In my first mojo bag we included more trinkets than I would say is really necessary, but looking back I know why we were so ambitious. Each crafted item that we made all tied back to what I described earlier. Happiness & Prosperity – each time we made one of the items was an hour of each of us in each others’ company whether it was sitting at a table or over facetime. We were so excited to be working on these trinkets together we didn’t realize that our manifestations were already working by opening our schedules, sharing time together, and making those connections.

These trinkets included
Dream Catchers – completed prior to our circle session
Spell Jars – made during our circle session
Chosen Gemstones – we as a group visited different spiritual shops to collect these
A wood burned sigil – we as a group made our own sigil
A hand-written mantra – we as a group brainstormed and wrote down the same mantra on individual pieces of paper

In other Mojo Bags, I have also placed solely herbs, Beeswax Candles, or some of my own sentimental beaded jewelry.

Crafting Your Mojo Bag

If you’ve heard of Stitch Meditation, I encourage you to personalize your bags with this practice, feel free to incorporate beads and intentional thread colors. This is a great practice for instilling your intentions into your mojo bag.

When choosing a mojo bag, you can use pocket satchels like these with a draw string (this is recommended if you are using bulky items like spell jars) or you can use a square of fabric, like the image below, if you are only wrapping herbs and/or a single gemstone.

Mindfull Crafting Session

A mindful crafting session can look differently for those of us who are practicing as a solitary witch or with a coven/community. The wonderful thing about witchcraft that I will always encourage is there is no one way to do this and your practice is the perfect way to do it for you.

Either way, it is important for you to put energies towards your intentions and manifestations. Creating a mojo bag is a great time to practice meditation, grounding, and mindful thinking. Reach out to the universe to ask for guidance. I would also suggest hopping on YouTube for a guided meditation for whatever topic or intention you are focusing on.

If you’re practicing with a coven, it is important to feel that everyone is involved and putting their energies towards the same intentions. Like I mentioned earlier, one of the activities we did was brainstorming ideas for our mantra before our circle session and then repeated this mantra during our circle session, mojo bags in hand. Hosting a special crafting session can truly be magical.

Daily Rituals with Mojo Bags

“Until you change your thinking, you’ll keep recycling your experiences”

Once you’ve made your mojo bags, keep in mind they are not just a set and forget item. Explore how to incorporate mojo bags into your daily rituals so that you keep those intentions at the forefront of your mind. Whether your Mojo Bag rests under your pillow to prevent bad dreams or promote sleep, or sits in your purse tied to your wallet to bring in your abundance; each time you hold your Mojo Bag, remember your intentions. I also keep a protection Mojo Bag in mine and my partner’s cars, and regularly remind myself that “We are Safe, We are protected, There is a bubble around our cars.”

Recharging & Releasing

Recharging your mojo bags as needed is a healthy practice. In particular, I recharge our sleeping Mojo Bags at least once a week. I have noticed that with my partner, who deals with mild but impactful insomnia, the Mojo Bag in his pillow feels heavy and, for lack of a better term, dark at the end of a week. Without it, he returns to very restless nights but the night after charging it, we have the fresh scent of lavender and chamomile beneath our heads that makes for his most restful nights.

With Mojo Bags, and all magic I feel, there comes a time when the magical item has been spent. I’m not sure how to describe it besides listening to your intuition, but some items like herb satchels may be obvious. When it is time to release a Mojo Bag’s intentions, this is a time to practice your gratitude and reflections. If it is safe to do so, bury natural items like herbs in the ground and thank them for guidance, assistance, and contributions. Meditate & Reflect on your growth and blessings. Items like gemstones and spell jars can be cleansed and reused.

Embrace Your Magic!

I encourage you to take time for yourself to have moments of reflection and gratitude. The universe will always bring us what we need when we need it and most of the times in ways that we least expect it. Embracing your magic is accepting that you have the power within you to enact change and manifest your wants and needs. It also means taking action and stepping into your own growth. I wish you all the best in your magical journeys! ❤🔮

Here are some Mojo Bag Inspo

Supplies:

  • Pocket Bags or clothe & string
  • Intentions note
  • Special Gemstone(s)*
  • Herbs
  • (See additional supplies for each different theme)

*A broad kit like this, is a great way to explore many different gemstones and find out which ones you resonate with the most. They are perfect for small spell jars, but I do recommend cleansing the stones with incense or your favorite cleansing practice before magical use. Using kits like these, I’ve found that I am very drawn to Labradorite in my self-care practices and Lapis in my divination practices.

Optional Crafts:

Spell Jars
Sigils
Dream Catcher
Needle & Thread for Stitch Meditation
Candles

I will have to make a post on this craft in particular but I was pleasantly and brightly benefitted from this particular spell jar for Protection from Negative Energy

Sigils – I particularly love this Pin as a guide for making sigils and I use my chosen or handwritten mantra to inspire the sigils shape

Restfull Sleep

Special Item: Dream Catchers

Mental Health

Herbs: Lavender
Gemstones: Labradorite
Candles- Readers, feel encouraged to make (or buy) small mindfulness candles. A personal practice of mine is to fill a spell jar with Himalayan Salt (to cleanse the aura and promote light consciousness) , Labradorite (to balance emotions and protect the aura from outside forces) , and Lavender (to calm and soothe the spirit) topped with a candle to burn while I meditate.
If you’re on a journey of Mental Health, I hope these words speak to you. ❤🔮
